hi, I'm rhye.
I'm trans and I paint clothes.
When I first came out, a wardrobe overhaul was the obvious first step to take. I bought a bunch of men's basics - simple, solid colors that would be easy to build on later. It was great! Even ignoring the gender part of it, the clothes fit me better. They were sewn better. Even the fabric they were made with was heavier. And the pockets!
I got bored with muted solid colors after a while and started looking to expand my wardrobe. I needed some accents. Statement pieces. Fun accessories. I looked, and I looked, and I found... nothing. Well, that's not true. I found myself, googling: "Fun men's clothes?" "Cool menswear?" "Colorful fashion men?" and "Where the fuck do fashionable gay men shop?"
Eventually, I gave up. I bought the most colorful jeans I could find (brick red, olive drab, and - miraculously - purple) and some fabric paint. I put on some Queen and got painting.
Ever since then, I've had people telling me I need to sell this stuff. I argued for a while. I couldn't imagine it working. I never wanted to start a business. I never wanted to monetize my hobby. I am angry about capitalism and poorly suited for "The Grind." Nonetheless, I couldn't help thinking I can't be the only one out there who wants more from menswear, and I soon found that I had more ideas for pants than I could justify making just for myself.
So this is my website. I'm still working on it, though, so email me to get on my mailing list if you want to know when there's more to see.
(I promise that any emails you get will be from me personally and I will never share or sell your information. The mere thought of doing so makes me throw up in the back of my mouth a little.)
